Current plot and mind map...
Well I'm not entirely sure what to list first. In terms of story creation, when this started I just wrote 5 chapters off the cuff. I knew how I wanted the characters to interact for the most part and what roles they would roughly fit into (Vegeta = foreign exchange student; Goku = athletics major; Bulma = genius smarty pants; etc) but I didn't have a great idea of the entire plot. I knew Freiza was going to be the enemy (duh) and that Gero would be in the story to help introduce androids 17 & 18 later on. But other than that I had no idea what major motivation or conflict was going to happen. To some extent I still don't, which is why I have this workblog to sort of help me sound things out. (Let's be real, it's also to help me feel like I'm actually DOING something instead of letting this story rot in the back of my mind.)
So far the story is as thus:
Bulma substitutes for Dr. Gero in order to meet Vegeta, who is a foreign exchange student. Vegeta is at West City University (which for some reason I put in the U.S....because it's easier for me to write about it as if it were in the U.S. mostly) because of something to do with Dr. Gero, but we're not sure what the connection is there yet.
Vegeta torments Bulma a little (phone kidnapping) thus making her attempt to get back at him (via skateboard removal). This gives us our first connection between them where they will HAVE to interact with one another.
We learn a bit about Bulma & Yamcha's relationship and background and establish that Bulma is single (for the most part other than being married to her studies). Vegeta torments Bulma a little more (car break-in and then texting fun).
We find out that Bulma talks with Dr. Gero regularly and that he has a place as one of her idols essentially. We have some fuzzy hints here as to whether or not she might have seen schematics for the androids but nothing is really concrete here. It's also hinted that Dr. Gero is maybe doing the androids for Frieza; again, nothing concrete here.
Ultimately the story, as it stands on May 9th, 2017 has left Bulma in Vegeta's debt (via purse returning of all things).
And that's where it halts....because that's all the character interaction I had managed be sure of.
So now I am struggling to come up with a genuine plot and I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back and revise things. I have a mind map I've made detailing some character motivations, plot ideas, relationships, and such that I will have to find a way to upload. It's a bit free-form but it's kind of neat in the idea that I can add in whatever I want whenever I want and it won't mess up the other stuff. I'm working on a typical 'outline-outline' as well.
